Dorset is a county of
contradictions — where ancient relics and a unique landscape vie for
attention with lively towns and the latest entertainment. You can find it
all within a short drive of Osmington Mills.

Picturesque towns, quaint villages,
historic buildings...
Deep in Thomas Hardy country lies the county town of Dorchester; on which he
based 'Casterbridge’. In Hardy’s cottage, a few miles to the east, he wrote
Under the Greenwood Tree” and Far From The Madding Crowd”. Further east
still is Athelhampton House. To the south, you can visit Maiden Castle or
Portland Castle; or scramble through the ruins of Corfe Castle to the east.

pubs, theatres and cinemas...
There is a selection of good shops at Weymouth — and for the really hardened
shopper; Bournemouth is within easy reach. Both towns have a wealth of pubs,
small cafes, and friendly restaurants as well as cinemas, theatres, golf
courses and other recreational venues.
Wild life, sea life, places of
interest...
Those who like a walk on the wild side’ can spend a day at Monkey World,
which lies between Osmington Mills and Wareham. Alternatively, Weymouth has
a fascinating Sea Life Centre, with displays of marine life that can be
enjoyed by all ages. Other local attractions include Brewers Quay, Lodmoor
Country Park, and Radipole Lake. If you are more interested in military
history, the Tank Museum is well worth a visit.

sleepy harbours...
There are countless beautiful walks along the Dorset coastline, which has
been awarded World Heritage Status. Explore Chesil Beach; Lyme Regis, where
The French Lieutenant’s Woman” was filmed; the fossil- rich cliffs of
Charmouth; or the fascinating geological formations at Lulworth Cove and
Durdle Door One of the closest resorts is Weymouth, where you can visit the
harbour before strolling along the sandy beach or having a dip in the
sparkling, clean sea
Around Osmington Mills, there’s
something for everyone. You can relax and explore the woods or the
coastline, or if you are feeling more adventurous, there’s a tremendous
wealth of places to visit and things to do.
